NCLB Report Card Minimize

Every parent knows the value of a child's report card. For tracking progress or for highlighting areas where your son or daughter can improve, there is no better tool available to parents. Empowering parents with knowledge about their child’s personal academic successes or failures has been a basic principle in public education.

As a result of the No Child Left Behind Act, a federal law calling for changes in public education, annual report cards of schools and school districts are now distributed each year. Information with regard to states, districts, and individual schools will now be compiled and offered to every parent. As with the grade reports that have been sent home for generations, these reports are designed to keep parents and the public informed about the progress of schools and to ensure that schools are improving the academic achievement of every student.

Below is our school's "report card".  The information contained within it is divided into three parts.

  • Part I: Teacher Qualifications
  • Part II: School Achievement in Mathematics and English Language Arts
  • Part III: School Performance Ratings

The report card for the district on a whole is available here. Paper copies are available by request at each school office and in the office of the Superintendent of Schools. In closing, please be assured that we are prepared to help you further should you have more questions about what this report card means and how you can use it to help you and your child grow stronger academically. Please feel free to call me directly if I can be of additional assistance to you.

Sincerely,

Peter G. Schafer
Superintendent of Schools

Safe and Drug Free Schools Minimize

The Abington Public Schools’ Safe and Drug Free School goals are consistent with those reflected in our No Child Left Behind Consolidated Plan to reduce violence and drug and alcohol use. Students in grades K-12 receive instruction on substance use/abuse and violence prevention from a district approved curriculum. Our junior high students are currently using the program, “Life Skills Training” in their Health Education classes. This program is an internationally known research based tobacco, alcohol and drug abuse prevention program for middle school students. To ensure a safe educational environment, the district clearly conveys the message that there is a “zero tolerance” for alcohol, drugs, weapons, hate crimes and violence within and on the grounds of the Abington Public Schools. The schools are aggressive with consequences as well as education, intervention and support. Safe and Drug Free Schools
