Abington Public Schools

Integrated Preschool Program Minimize

The Abington Public Schools NAEYC nationally accredited Integrated Preschool Program was established in 1989 to meet the needs of Abington's preschool population with special needs and to provide a unique experience for other preschool children from the community who will serve as typically developing peers. Applications for admission for children will be available at the ECC on January 4, 2010 in the principal’s office and Pupil Personnel office for enrollment in the program for the 2010/2011 school year. You can also download a copy of the application from this web page.  It is anticipated that a limited number of slots will be made available for typically developing children each year. A lottery selection process will be instituted for these slots. In order to be eligible for admission as a typically developing student, children must meet the following criteria:

1. All children in the program must be three or four years of age by August 31st , be a resident of Abington, and not be eligible for entry into the Abington Kindergarten program.

2. The students selected must demonstrate to Early Childhood staff age-appropriate skills in the following areas during a screening interview: speech/language, cognitive abilities, fine/gross motor skills, socialization/behavior skills.

If you are interested in having your child considered for entrance into Abington’s Integrated Preschool Program as a typically developing student, please attend the informational meeting on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 6:00 p.m in the Cafeteria at the Early Childhood Center and fill out and return the application form by then.

All applications will be processed through a lottery system that is weighted based on the gender and ages of next year's special needs population. There is no priority given to early applicants. The screenings are tentatively scheduled for March 5, 12, 19 and April 1, 2010. Decision letters will be mailed on or about April 9th.

For the 2010-11 school year, the Abington Integrated Preschool Program will be a daily, Monday through Friday morning (9:10 am to 11:50 am) or afternoon (12:35 pm to 3:15 pm) sessions.

Each year, the fee for this preschool program is reviewed and subject to change. Families will be notified as  soon as this fee has been established for the 2010/2011 school year.

If you should have any further questions about the program, contact Ms. Ann Harper, Principal of the Early Childhood Center, at 781- 982-2185.
