Unit 6: Nationalism and the Age of Jackson

Homework 2/28/11: Do a Google search for campaign 1824 and click on the last link on the first page of results.  It will be called The Election of 1824 on gvsd.org.  View the slideshow and write down 3 things you learned or 3 questions you have or a combination of both.  (3 total)

Homework 3/2/11: Read the above word document titled Hayne-Webster Debate in the class assignments section.  Using their words as inspiration, put them into your own words to demonstrate your understanding of the messages.  (30 points) Also, at the bottom of your page make a list of the words you didn't understand and define them (minimum 5) (10 points). 

Unit 7: The Second Great Awakening

Homework 3/21/11: Read the introduction and 1 (period 3) or 2 (period 4) of the utopian group's sections.  You should also read the conclusion.  Write one paragraph explaining why the utopian movements mostly failed while the Mormons were successful.  Consider that both wanted to perfect society.  (30 points)

Homework 3/31/11: This link is for a site on the history of the Abolitionist movement in America.  Timing yourself, I'd like you to spend at least 10 minutes navigating this site and reading sections that seem interesting to you.  For class tomorrow, you should have 3 interesting things you learned, 2 historical conclusions you can make about the Abolition movement, and 1 question you think your peers would benefit from knowing the answer to. The only sections you should avoid are the two on the Emancipation Proclamation and the 13th Amendment.

A.P. U.S. 2 - Period 6 Homework Minimize

Homework 1/25/11: Using this link, skim through this article on Isolationism before World War II.  It is long, yes, but here is a brief outline.  The beginning section discusses why Americans tend to be isolationist and why that voice was at its strongest toward the beginning of World War II.  I would recommend reading the first few paragraphs more closely because they set a good tone for the article.  It then goes on to explain the beliefs of the isolationist groups and people who would be likely to support this cause.  More detailed focus is given to the America First Committee or AFC and why they felt America should stay of the war.  It then goes on to talk more about Charles Lindbergh's role in America First and anti-semetism.  The conclussion section is relatively shorter and worth reading to get an idea of how these beliefs were converted in America toward intervention. 

Your assignment is to pull at least 5 isolationist quotes out of this document and be able to explain them in a discussion tomorrow in class.  It will be a 30 points graded discussion based on your participation and strength of understanding this article and its overall thesis.  Please copy and paste the quotes into a word document and print them out for tomorrow's class.  Your notes may be included with the quotes. 

Homework 2/7/11: Read FDR's executive order on Japanese Internment.  I'd also like you to read the two links at the bottom on "Evacuation was a mistake" and Milton Eisenhower justifies..." We will be discussing this issue tomorrow in class.
