To Parents Minimize

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As parents/guardians of 7th or 8th graders you may not realize the importance of reading with your child on a regular basis. Many people believe that it is only important to read to your child when they are young; however, this is not the case. Students who struggle with reading, writing, and/or reading comprehension really need to have reading be a big part of their home life. Parents should be reading with, and/or listening to their child read every night. Students will only improve their reading skills with practice. The more reading that they are doing at home, the better. Please be involved in your child's education, and set aside time to devote to your child and his/her reading. As adults, we know that there is nothing better than a good book that you just can't put down. Help your child find that book for him/herself!

What's Going On In Class? Minimize

September, 2010

In addition to daily writing prompt exercises, right now we are focusing on Reading Comprehension. The students are reading their AR (Accelerated Reading) books and creating pictures with written short summaries to help them better understand what they are reading. This skill will help train their brains to create pictures/movies in their minds whenever they read, which will hopefully improve their comprehension.
